Extreme Situations

The more extreme your situation the more you trigger others to react to your situation., because, by default, you are mirroring a parallel event, past or current, in the other person's life. This sometimes leads to the other person being more emotional about your situation than you are to the point that they might even make it a personal conflict between the two of you.

Of course, you too are emotional about the extreme situation you are in for different reasons and it might not be immediately apparent to you why the other person is becoming so emotionally engaged.  After all it is your life.  Part of it can be caring, but most of it is that you are mirroring for them and they are reliving their 'trauma'.

Be aware of this and make the distinction between you/your situation and what they are reliving. Evaluate advice as it pertains to your situation, not someone else's. Also don't take things personally. Just as the situation is tough for you, it is tough for the other person too.
